Jean Galard (organ of the church of St. Médard, Paris),
Ensemble Vocal Français dir. Gilbert Martin-Bouyer.
Some real rarities here, none of them previously recorded, by the widely-admired French composer Charles Koechlin, whose ‘oeuvre’ extends from pieces based on Kipling and the film world (his ‘Seven Stars’ symphony is not to do with astronomy – among the ‘stars’ are Greta Garbo and Charlie Chaplin!) to deeply-felt, almost trance-like, sacred works such as the 35-minute ‘L’Abbaye’. A fascinating discovery, well worth hearing.
