"Martha Argerich's summers at the Lugano Festival are reaping a rich harvest of live recordings for admirers of this supreme pianist. … This is live music-making of the most exhilarating order, benefiting from the intimacy of the setting as much as the skills of these peerless musicians." - The Guardian
“The Lugano festival is community music-making on a deluxe scale, with performers and listeners mutually uplifted by music’s wonders.” - The Times
Throughout her career Martha Argerich has nurtured and promoted rising stars of the classical music world. She continues to create many rich chamber music partnerships with them, always discovering new and exciting performer combinations. The four albums recorded at her Progetto Martha Argerich Festival in Lugano have demonstrated the high quality these performances can achieve: the 2005 release of “Live from the Lugano Festival” was nominated for the 2006 Grammy Awards.
Although this album was recorded at the 2006 Lugano Festival, it is an as-yet-unreleased Shostakovich disc with the main work being a concerto rather than chamber music, something Argerich fans have had to wait a long time for! In the concerto, she teams up with the outstanding young trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana under Alexander Verdernikov.
Martha Argerich is joined in the other Shostakovich works by some familiar collaborators: Virgin Classics artist Renaud Capucon, cellist Mischa Maisky and pianist Lilya Zilberstein to name but a few.
