1 - 5 Aus de Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir, BWV 131
6 - 11 Tritt auf die Glaubensbahn, BWV 152
12 - 17 Komm, du Sube Todesstudnde, BWV 161
The three pieces on this recording are all known as “early cantatas” meaning that they were written before Bach moved to Leipzig. BWV 131 is possibly the earliest of the three having first been performed in 1708 when Bach was in Muhlhausen. The other two are from his Weimar years, 1714 and 1716.
The Theatre of Early Music, founded in 2001 by Daniel Taylor, is a group of some of the finest musicians from all over the world who share a passion for early music. It is comprised primarily of young musicians whose distinctive style, coupled with Daniel Taylor’s expertise, detailed study of performance practice and enthusiasm, leads to captivating readings of magnificent and often neglected works.
