ANTON BRUCKNER
Symphony No. 8
World Philharmonic Orchestra / Carlo Maria Giulini
Recorded live at the Konserthuset, Stockholm, 8 December 1985
The World Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most remarkable ensembles in the world. Founded by the United Nations and the United Nations Children's Fund, it brings together the finest musicians – principals and instrumental soloists – from all five continents
The present recording was made at the orchestra's inaugural concert in 1985 and features Bruckner's Eighth Symphony conducted by one of the composer's leading interpreters, Carlo Maria Giulini
The players meet once a year in order to perform together to the highest standards and at the same time to set an example of peaceful coexistence among all men and women
“Giulini was uniquely exceptional: kind, charming and warm-hearted,” says Sir Simon Rattle, principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and, in his youth, assistant to the revered maestro in Los Angeles. “And his music-making reflected this: he made music on the strength of his love of music. The last truly great man.”
