South Korean-born American soprano Hyunah Yu was successfully pursuing a career in molecular biology before a family tragedy demanded that her deep-felt love of music called her to a career as a singer.

 

For her Debut recording Hyunah has put together a collection of beautiful Bach cantata and Passion arias, including extracts from the “Wedding Cantata”, juxtaposed with Mozart opera arias.

 

One of the highlights of the album is Mozart’s “Ruhe Sanft” from the opera Zaïde. Earlier in 2006 Hyunah starred in the title role of Zaïde in a startling new production by Peter Sellars which toured Vienna, London and New York and brought her to the attention of the international press.

 

Hyunah Yu is supported and encouraged by pianist Mitsuko Uchida since being discovered by her at the 2000 Marlboro Music Festival in the USA.
