This reissue, of recordings made in 1993 by Radio France, includes in the booklet a most persuasive article by Martin Gester, explaining his reasons for taking literally the title written by Bach’s son-in-law on the oldest existing copy of the score: “6 Sonatas for Violin and Organ”.  The performances themselves provide other compelling reasons for listening to Bach’s much-loved sonatas in this form, making this a highly desirable purchase even for those who own a set already.
