Montreal Festival Wind Orchestra / Mordechai Rechtman
The music chosen for this recording is just a small sampling of Bach's organ writing, though it includes a number of his best known and best loved masterpieces.
Mordechai Rechtman, one of the world's finest orchestral wind players, brings to his Bach transcriptions a deep and all-abiding understanding of wind instruments-their unique colours in different registers, their technical peculiarities, how they sound in combination with one another, and so on. The result is a complex yet architecturally perfect musical structure reborn, a bold and vivid re-statement so satisfying to our ears that we hear the music as if for the first time. It is old territory bathed in a new light, and it magically works to change our perceptions forever.
