A CAPPELLA CHRISTMAS:
Traditional Christmals Carols from Southern Austria
schnittpunktvokal
“Unique ... the particular style, the charm and clearness of four male voices melting into each other without losing their explicit character, coupled with perfect pitch.”
Dr. Guenther Antesberger, ORF - Austrian Broadcasting Association
schnittpunktvokal, a four-piece close-harmony group of male singers, present their debut on CPO with this seasonal blend of traditional Christmas carols from Southern Austria. With beautiful melodies from the part of the world that brought us seasonal gems such as Silent Night - the carol which for many is now synonymous with Christmas - this disc is sure to stir up festive emotions in even the most Scrooge-like.
schnittpunktvokal is almost a family ensemble, and in fact three of the members, Peter (countertenor), Christian (tenor) and Michael (tenor) are brothers from the Paumgartens family. They are joined by their bass colleague, Josef Wagner, for close-harmony of a festive kind.
The alpine folk song rests on harmony (Viergesang) and the Christmas carol in particular represents a heritage which relies on harmony. The result is a compelling collection of simple, expressive pieces which are exemplified by the warmth and clarity of these four male voices.
