•           Barrios’ music lay undiscovered for three decades after his death, yet since the publication of comprehensive editions of his work in the mid 1970s, many now consider this South American composer to be the greatest guitar composer of all time.

 

•           This first volume in the new Naxos survey of his works delivers a colourful musical portrait of Barrios. It begins with Maxixe, an urban dance from Brazil. Inspired by folk tradition, it is a virtuoso display of both technical prowess and compositional skill. It is followed in this programme by the highly romantic Un Sueno en la Floresta, which contains what is perhaps the most difficult and complex tremolo ever conceived for the guitar.
