Thomas ALBINONI (1671-1751)
Trio Sonatas Op. 1
Parnassi musici
• In this premiere recording on CPO, Parnassi musici continue to explore the music from eighteenth-century Italy with the Twelve Trio Sonatas op. 1 by Tomaso Albinoni.
• Through Corelli the trio sonata (two violins and basso continuo) became a favoured instrumental genre, so much so that young composers of this period felt obliged to debut with an Opus 1 consisting of trio sonatas. This was also true of the young Venetian Albinoni, who already in this work demonstrates his major compositional strengths: skill in the crafting of charming and fascinating melodies and a pronounced sense of proportion.
• Parnassi musici’s stylistic mastery, technical sovereignty, and winning musicality has spread far and wide and is reflected in awards, such as the ensemble’s recording of the trio sonatas by Domenico Gallo which received a nomination for the Cannes Classical Award.
