20TH CENTURY PSALMS
Bernardino Rizzi: Miserere (Psalm 50) for a capella choir
Charles Ives: Psalm 90 for choir, organ & bells (1)
Krzysztof Penderecki: Psalms of David (Psalms 28, 30, 43, 143) for choir, 2 pianos, percussion, double bass & harp (2)
Leonard Bernstein: Chichester Psalms (Psalms 108, 23, 131) for choir, soprano solo, organ, harp & percussion (3)
Cracow Chamber Choir/ Stanislaw Krawczyński
with Ulrich Meldau (org. – 1,3), Ryszard Haba (perc. – 1,2,3), Irena Czubek-Davidson (hp. – 2,3), Isabela Szota (sop. – 3)
Grzegorz Frankowski (db. – 2), Monika Plachta & Joanna Solecka (pfs. – 2).
A great showcase for the excellent Cracow Chamber Choir, which was founded in 1990 and has already appeared throughout Europe. There are no other available recordings of the works by Ives and Rizzi, while the best-known work on the disc, Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’, is performed in a version with organ, harp & percussion, which should provide a useful pointer for choral societies without access to an orchestra!
