A la Francaise is an illustration of the French manner of playing and writing for the saxophone. Husband-and-wife-team Claude and Odile Delangle are the perfect pair to perform this compendium of French saxophone music from the last century: “an undisputed world leader in the field of contemporary music” BBC Music Magazine on Claude Delangle.
This Delangles have previously recorded musical tours of Russian and Japanese saxophone music. “The Russian Saxophone” (BISCD765) won unanimous praise (“a winner in every respect” Fanfare) and “The Japanese Saxophone” (BISCD890) was equally well received.
The programme presents folkloristic scenes from Provence (Paule Maurice: Tableaux de Provence) as well as providing insights into the very French art of desserts (Claude Delvincourt: Croquembouches, or Tidbits). Also included are also works by among others Charles Koechlin and Fernande Decrück – two composers who heartily supported the creation of a saxophone class at the Paris Conservatory in 1942.
Claude Delangle, currently himself professor of saxophone at the Paris conservatory, has dedicated this CD to the legendary Marcel Mule, the first person to occupy the post of professor of saxophone at the Conservatory
