Isaac ALBÉNIZ (1860-1909)
Piano Music Volume 4:
Iberia, Fourth Book (T.105); 6 pequeños valses (T.47); Sonata No.3 (T.69); Suite ancienne No.1 (T.62); Serenata árabe (T.60)
Miguel Baselga (piano)
Generally acknowledged to be his masterpiece, Iberia took the Spanish composer four years to complete and effortlessly combines all the influences and styles of his compositional career, coming as it did from the last years of his life. Included here are the formal styles of European composition alongside Andalusian folk idioms, Impressionism as well as Romanticism, and a technical difficulty so advanced it is said that even Albéniz, a remarkably virtuosic performer, struggled to play it.
