The 4th release from Oboe Classics focuses on the work of Han de Vries, a leading exponent of the DutchSchool of oboe playing. His eloquent, expressive style here lends itself to some of his favourite works, including perhaps the most famous oboe concerto written; Mozart’s Oboe Concerto in C major.
Also included is one of Bach’s best loved works: the Concerto for Violin and Oboe, BWV 1060 along with some lesser known works such as the Kalliwoda – a swashbuckling tour de force, and the Andriessen; a piece that was written especially for Han de Vries. The disc provides an excellent mix of different musical elements, from baroque to bagpipes!
The accompanying booklet contains a fascinating interview with Han where he talks about recording these particular pieces as well as photos of him throughout his career along with pictures of his extensive collection of period instruments.
A superb collection of works to celebrate the work of a fine artist.
