Roland Batik (piano)
Vienna born Roland Batik studied piano at the Vienna Academy for Music and Performing Arts, later under Friedrich Gulda and Fritz Pauer. His debut-recital was at the Musikverein in Vienna in 1975. Together with his piano-duo partner Paul Gulda he appeared in concerts throughout Europe. Since 1988 he shifted the emphasis of his musical activities to solo recitals – classical music, his own compositions and standard jazz. In 1991 he was awarded the “Wiener Flötenuhr“ for the complete edition of Mozart’s piano sonatas, a price given for the best Mozart-interpretation of the year. His interpretation of the complete Haydn Sonatas received excellent reviews in Gramophone and Fono Forum. Early 2004 he premiered his second Piano Concerto in a critically acclaimed performance with the Bruckner Orchestra in Linz.
