HEINRICH ALBERT
Eight Guitar Duos
World premiere recordings
Henrich-Albert-Duo
Heinrich Albert (1870-1950) bequeathed to posterity an extensive oeuvre including solo pieces, etudes, and chamber compositions. This composer showed the guitar in a new light and in many different musical facets, far transcending its role in the “Wandervogel” German youth movement and its use as a mere accompaniment instrument. He is now regarded as the most important guitar composer of his time in German-speaking Europe. The eight duos for two guitars from 1915-1917 recorded here for the first time are regarded as his principal work. They are written in the high romantic idiom of the time and require a fine interpretive touch and the highest virtuosity from those who perform them.
