One of the truly great tenor voices of his generation, Argentinean tenor Marcelo Alvarez releases his third recital album on Sony Classical, following the critically acclaimed Bel Canto (SK60721) and French Opera Arias (SK89650) with a selection of popular and well known opera arias by Puccini, Cilea, Giordano amongst others. This is arguably Marcelo's most 'popular' recital to date, and coinciding with his forthcoming performances at the Royal Opera House, should sell strongly. This is also Marcelo's first recording with the renowned Statskapelle Dresden Orchestra.
"...his voice has a typically Spanish timbre analogous to that of the young Carreras, dark-grained and plaintive, the ideal instrument for his chosen parts in Bellini, mid-period Verdi and above all Donizetti.....he evinces the line, the shaping of phrase and the intelligent accentuation of the text essential for a tenor in the ottocento repertory.....he need fear few comparisons from singers of the past....the recording gives this more-than-promising tenor real presence..."
Gramophone
"Marcelo Alvarez is a tenor who can act as well as he sings...vocally, Alvarez is superb, athletic, glorious, he's genuinely unmissable...."
