Simone Kermes,
Venice Baroque Orchestra / Andrea Marcon
Andrea Marcon, the Venice Baroque Orchestra and soprano Simone Kermes follow up their acclaimed Amor sacro with a second album devoted to the genius of Vivaldi
Amor sacro received critical acclaim worldwide: The Guardian described it as “the most exciting disc I’ve heard in ages”, Le Monde de la musique considered Kermes “an ideal interpreter of these pieces”, while in Germany Stereoplay found that “Marcon’s Venice Baroque Ensemble really made sparks fly”
While the first album consisted of sacred repertoire, the second – as the title Amor profano suggests – is devoted to secular works, containing a selection of Vivaldi’s most dramatic and easily accessible Canti d’amore e di guerra (“Songs of love and war”). These arias from Vivaldi’s lesser-known and virtually unheard operas have been chosen especially for the charismatic, dazzling voice of Simone Kermes and the virtuoso playing of the Venice Baroque Orchestra under Marcon
The album features a number of world-premiere recordings further contributing to the continuing rediscovery of the composer’s music and the “Vivaldi boom” of our times.
A recording that is sheer joy: vivacious music enhanced by the mastery of Simone Kermes and the Venice Baroque Orchestra.
