VINCENT D’INDY

Concerto in E flat, for piano, flute, cello and strings
Brigitte Engerer - piano
Magali Mosnier - flute
Marc Coppey - cello
Orchestre de Bretagne / Lionel Bringuier
D’Indy’s ‘Italian’ symphony is an early work, completed before he gave up studying law, and so far as we know, never performed in its entirety during his lifetime - this is its first recording. The concerto, by contrast, was written over 50 years later in 1926, by which time the composer, with amazing vitality and conviction, was leading the forces of reaction and conservatism in French music - so it is no surprise to find a neo-Classical work, in concerto grosso format. Both works fully deserve their revival, in these lively and committed performances.
