Critically-acclaimed ever since its first recording, the choral group Accentus has received numerous prizes from the music press for its CDs. Its recording of “Transcriptions”, which has sold more than 100,000 copies, was a Grammy Award nominee in 2004, and its Schoenberg recording with the Ensemble Intercontemporain (2005) received a Midem Classical Award in 2006.
Founded by Laurence Equilbey for the purpose of performing the major works of the a cappella repertoire, and with a special interest in contemporary music, accentus is today an ensemble of 32 professional singers which appears at the leading French and international festivals. The choir collaborates regularly with prestigious conductors and orchestras (Pierre Boulez, Jonathan Nott, Christoph Eschenbach, Orchestre de Paris, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen/Haute Normandie, Concerto Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik).
This film was shot after the huge success of the two albums of Transcriptions released since 2003. Accentus and Laurence Equilbey inspired the director Andy Sommer who wrote: “The a cappella music of Accentus is magical, its sound at once luminous and full of mystery. This film-concert, a sort of ‘a cappella musical’ focusing on the repertoire of transcriptions, explores from one work to another the different aspects of the art of Accentus and gives a visual dimension to this unique ensemble.” An opportunity to see and listen again the greatest hits of Accentus’ transcriptions: Barber’s Adagio, Mahler’s Adagietto, Vivaldi’s Winter, Schubert’s Death and the Maiden…
