Natalia Gutman - cello
Mahler Chamber Orchestra / Claudio Abbado
Brought out by Universal Italy in December 2006, the CD includes Claudio Abbado's first recording of Schumann's Cello Concerto as well as Brahms's Serenade No.1.
The recording was made live in Reggio Emilia during an Italian tour by Claudio Abbado, Natalia Gutman and Mahler Chamber Orchestra performing these works.
This is the first time that Natalia Gutman has appeared on the Deutsche Grammophon label. One of today's leading cellists, Ms. Gutman was a pupil of Mstislav Rostropovich. Her friend Sviatoslav Richter said of her: "She is an incarnation of truthfulness in music." Natalia Gutman regularly plays with the most prestigious orchestras all over the world.
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra is a professional touring chamber orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado and former members of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester in 1997. The orchestra consists of 48 members from 17 different countries. Many of its recordings are already available on Deutsche Grammophon.
