Petr Weigl’s spell-binding, on-location film of Delius’ masterpiece A Village Romeo and Juliet presents a contemporary view on the timeless tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The celebrated recording features the young lovers Vreli and Sali, bewitched by the Dark Fiddler (Thomas Hampson). The drama is set in Switzerland and includes Delius’s celebrated Walk to the ParadiseGarden.
This DVD contains an exclusive bonus feature and a previously unreleased documentary. Discovering Delius contains Derek Bailey’s illuminating biography tracing Delius’ colourful life and career from his early days in Florida through to his tranquil years in Grez-surl Loing. The film includes contributions from Delius’ amanuensis Eric Fenby.
Now available for the first time on DVD, benefiting from the presence of English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Chinese subtitles, plus the presentation of the opera in 5.1 DTS surround.
