CHOPIN
Piano Sonata No. 2, 4 Scherzos
Simon Trpčeski
Simon Trpčeski has established himself as one of the most remarkable young musicians to have emerged in recent years, playing with many of the world’s great orchestras and delighting audiences world-wide. His highly successful 2004 Proms debut with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra prompted the Independent’s critic to write “people will be auctioning tickets for Simon Trpčeski soon”.
Simon is a natural performer whose charisma and ability to create a rapport with audiences has inspired a devoted following and re-invitations everywhere he performs. "[Trpceski] is a musician who looks set to dominate the pianistic world for a long time to come" The Times recently commented.
His second album for the main label, Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 and 4 Scherzos, is very personal to the pianist. Simon feels a close connection to Chopin and says his Slavic temperament and romantic trait complement the composer’s personality.
The second sonata exemplifies that Chopin hated revisiting old ground. The varied nature of the work fits Simon Trpceski like a glove. He commented “Chopin was a man of surprises and the sonata captures that perfectly. The end of the last movement leaves us amazed and with many questions."
The surroundings and tranquil atmosphere at Potton Hall, where the album was recorded, reminded Simon of his father’s village and were an inspiration to him throughout the recording. This prompted him to dedicate this album to his family.
"He quickly displayed the compelling hallmarks of his style: light but devastatingly punchy octaves; well delineated rhythms (he can pounce on chords with a drum-like vigour when he chooses); a gossamer touch in lyrical episodes; and an impeccable ear for internal balance.”
