Il Giardino Armonico / Giovanni Antonini
“This ambitious Vivaldi series from Opus 111 just gets better and better….it’s good to know that there are yet more delights in store.” International Record Review
This is the first volume of the Vivaldi Edition to be solely dedicated to cello concertos. Christophe Coin, Giovanni Antonini and Il Giardino Armonico are specialists of this repertoire, and have never before appeared on the Vivaldi Edition.
Il Giardino Armonico, founded in Milan in 1985 and directed by Giovanni Antonini, is one of the most renowned and sought after Baroque orchestras today. With a nucleus which varies depending on the musical necessity, their repertory centres on instrumental and vocal music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Il Giardino Armonico is regularly invited to perform in major international festivals and they maintain an active concert schedule, performing in concert halls the world over. “[Their] playing of vitality and lyricism brings Vivaldi's music to life in a thrilling manner. Indeed, the integrity and musicianly character of these performances is in no small measure heightened by the presence of Christophe Coin.” Gramophone on a previous release on another label.
“Christophe Coin’s playing is limpid and relaxed; he phrases with considerable freedom, leaning or edging forwards as the musical mood dictates”. Gramophone
