GUSTAV MAHLER
Symphony No.1 (1884-1888, revision 1906)
Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra / Mariss Jansons
Recorded 28/08 & 17/11/2006
A new Mahler release from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Mariss Jansons on the orchestra's own label RCO Live and recorded in the late summer and autumn of 2006 after successful concerts in Amsterdam, Lucerne and Berlin. Not only to be heard in the concert hall but also to be experienced at home in five channel surround sound on SACD.
"Jansons continues in glory on his journey through Mahler in Amsterdam… Dazzlingly superior level … there are few conductors who can shape a climax with such concentration and such complete balance."
Trouw
"…evocatively and atmospherically performed by Jansons with nostalgia and tender enchantment."
NRC Handelsblad
"The orchestra under its chief conductor played truly royally and won immense ovations … this performance of the First Symphony sounded like a premiere, drenched in Romanticism and with warlike attacks and with triumphal marches and folk tunes joyfully intermingled. All of the above was steered by the conductor's skilful hands"
