London Symphony Orchestra / Sir Colin Davis
A high density DSD recording, live at the Barbican Centre on: 6-7/1/ 2007 Enigma; 23/9 & 9/12/2005 Introduction & Allegro.
During his time as Principal Conductor of the LSO, Sir Colin Davis gained a reputation as the leading interpreter of Elgar's music. His recordings of Elgar's Symphonies in 2002 and The Dream of Gerontius in 2006 are among LSO Live's most popular and widely acclaimed titles.
The LSO also has a long association with the composer. Elgar one of its first Principal Conductors and the orchestra premièred many of his works, including the Introduction & Allegro for Strings.
The Enigma Variations was Elgar's breakthrough work and remains one of his most popular. Although it is often thought of as whimsical and the epitome of 'Englishness', in reality it is a thrilling and ravishingly beautiful masterpiece. This release coincides with the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth.
