Martha Argerich's annual festival in Lugano provides a reliable feast of both well-established and unfamiliar repertoire played by well-known and less familiar artists, many of them young, all of them compelling. The 2007 festival certainly ran true to form - with composers as diverse as Mozart, Glinka, Messiaen, Schumann, Lutosławski, Ravel, Bartók and Beethoven - variety and discovery were as abundant as ever.

No other pianist in the musical world nurtures and promotes emerging talent with the same level of personal commitment and belief as Martha Argerich. The results of the chamber music partnerships displayed on this release demonstrate the magic that is made when these professional friends are brought together by her unique artistic personality.

This year’s recording also boasts a substantial solo spot from Martha herself, playing Schumann's Kinderszenen Op. 15.

Amongst many other artists, this year’s set features EMI Classics-signed pianists Gabriela Montero and Sergio Tiempo and Virgin Classics inimitable cellist Renaud Capuçon.

Press Acclaim for the festival recordings:

"These annual live sets from the Lugano festival are one of the delights of the year." - The Observer

Praise for ‘Live From Lugano 2005’ (0094635847222), released June 2006:

“The Lugano festival is community music-making on a deluxe scale, with performers and listeners mutually uplifted by music’s wonders.” The Times, June 2006

“…at a time when new music is more and more marginalised, modernity is expressed through the interpretation of past works by inspired performers. Lugano is a vibrant tribute to the concept.”

Financial Times, June 2006

“These coyly named discs from one of the world's finest pianists, recorded live in concert at the Lugano Festival, I now await each summer with the certainty of heart-lifting delight” Guardian, June 2006
