Live in Paris was recorded in 2001 during the celebrations for the reopening of the prestigious Salle Gaveau in Paris. The programme: 18 of the greatest tenor arias
The French singer Roberto Alagna is one of the finest lyrical tenors of his generation. He regularly appears at the great opera houses worldwide, portraying the heroes of Puccini, Donizetti, Verdi, Gounod, Massenet and Bizet, among others. He has received remarkable critical acclaim throughout his whole career.
In 1994 Roberto Alagna was voted Musical Personality of the year by the French press. In 1997, at the time of his first performances in Werther; he won an award in the category Lyric Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique ceremony. He received the Vermeil Medal of the City of Paris in 2001 and became Officer in the Order of Arts and Letters in recognition of his international career one year later. At the 2004 Victoires de la Musique awards, he again won the trophy for Lyric Artist of the Year along with Best Opera Recording of the Year.
He is out-and-out magnificent: warm and tender, ardent and elegiac, with beautiful high notes, impeccable phrasing and singing of a perfect intelligibility.”
