When Channel Classics transported hundreds of kilograms of recording equipment last year to the Mission Church of Concepción deep in the Bolivian jungle, no one really knew what to expect. The triumphant result is the fastest selling CD in Channel Classics’ history.
Now the word is spreading and Florilegium and Channel Classics have been back for a second helping. With the continuing support of the Prince Claus Fund, a Dutch Intercultural Exchange Institute, we returned to Bolivia last April for an even more ambitious project - recording a new CD, including a complete Mass, the Missa Encarnación, with a chamber choir formed at Christmas time from Bolivian singers who had never sung together.
The results are stunning, the choir responding to intensive coaching to produce a magnificent sound; the CD promises to be another great success. A European tour of the chamber choir is already being planned for early 2008. With a huge amount of music still to be catalogued, edited and performed, the project is attracting media interest around the world.
CBS television is planning an edition of 60 Minutes in November devoted to Florilegium and the re-discovery of this archive.
