Paul Lewis (piano)
Paul Lewis is performing the complete Beethoven piano sonatas throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. He started in 2005, continues through 2007 and all are being recorded for harmonia mundi. His exceptional musicianship and self-effacing style saw his profile increase during the first concerts, aided by his appearance on the Last Night of the Proms 2005.
Volume I was warmly and unanimously acclaimed by the international press as have previous recitals of Schubert and Liszt.
“Faced with such excellence a mere critic can only abandon paper and pencil and listen to this heroic but deeply moving young artist with awe and amazement. These are early days but Paul Lewis's superbly recorded and presented Beethoven may well turn out to be the most musicianly and ultimately satisfying of all recorded Beethoven piano sonata cycles.”
Gramophone, Recording of the Month, December 2006
“Other Beethoven piano cycles are on the go... But Lewis’s is the most exciting,” The Times
"Lewis's technical mastery combines with his impeccable taste to bring fresh insights to these familiar works. His attention to detail is flawless. Well worth collecting the lot." The Observer, 19 November 2006
