A re-telling of the Faust legend, Cabin in the Sky is the 1943 MGM movie version of the earlier American musical with music by Vernon Duke and lyrics by John La Touche. Directed by Vincente Minnelli in what was his Hollywood debut and produced by Arthur Freed and Albert Lewis and with music by Harold Arlen and Vernon Duke, it stars Ethel Waters and Rex Ingram, both of whom had appeared in the Broadway version. It also featured singer Lena Horne as the temptress Georgia Brown in her first and only leading role in an MGM musical. Musicians Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington and his Orchestra also appeared in this ground-breaking movie that featured an all-black cast. Popular music from the movie includes 'Things Ain't What They Used To Be'; 'Taking a Chance on Love' and 'Happiness is a Thing Called Joe', which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1944. Includes here deluxe booklet, out-takes and other rarities.
