Sir Herbert Brewer was born in Gloucester in 1865 and is a contemporary of Edward Elgar. He died unexpectedly in 1928 at the age of 63. He is remembered mainly as the Organist and Master of the Music at Gloucester Cathedral but his organ music is little known, apart from Marche Heroique and Cloister Garth.
Over 77 minutes of organ music is recorded here which is delightful and approachable on the ear and Daniel Cook splendidly plays the fine Willis organ at Salisbury Cathedral. A CD not to be missed.
