Two of Serge Chaloff’s best albums in their entirety, ‘Blue Serge’ (1956), which was his very last album, and ‘Boston Blow-up!’ (1955), the album that preceded it. Both albums were originally on Capitol. Two tracks recorded during these sessions but omitted from the original albums, have been added here as a bonus.
Personnel : Serge Chaloff, baritone sax, on all tracks, plus : Sonny Clark, Leroy Vinnegar, Philly Joe Jones, Boots Mussulli, Herb Pomeroy, Ray Santisi, Everett Evans, Jimmy Zitano. Total Time: 79:37 mins. - 19 tracks.
Serge Chaloff, a fine improviser, was one of the first baritone sax players to play bebop. He died in July 1957, at the age of 33, from cancer of the spine, which was aggravated by his heroin addiction.
