Debussy, Claude
Claude Debussy was born in St. Germain-en-Laye, France, in 1862. At the age of 12 he entered the Paris Conservatoire and he was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome for composition in 1884. However his experimentalist tendencies met with disapproval and his earliest works brought him little success.
