This selection is chiefly by composers steeped in the Anglican traditions of choral writing, from the 19th century’s SS Wesley to 20th century developments by John Ireland, Herbert Howells and William Harris, sometime piano teacher to Her Majesty the Queen.
Harris’s anthem “Faire is the Heaven”, from which the album takes its title, is often considered one of the very finest contributions to the English Choral Renaissance in the 20th Century and can have found fewer finer performances than in this magical recording.
