La Ricordanza goes on a foreign tour with 18th Century composers who, as foreigners, contributed to English musical life. G.F. Handel, Francesco Barsanti, J.C. Bach, Gottfried Finger, Nicola Matteis and Carl Friedrich Abel were all attracted to London. During this period the city was regarded as a place of unlimited musical opportunities, however the success of foreign composers led to a nationalist backlash; “Save our English stage from foreign insult!” became the rallying call.
