• The clarinet virtuoso Martin Fröst continues to develop as one of the most exciting instrumentalists of his generation. He made his successful debut in 1994 in a unique role as a clarinet-playing actor in an opera based on the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin (Der Rattenfanger von Hamelin) by Wilfried Hiller.
• Arranging arias for a melody instrument was popular in the 19th century and the clarinet, with its wide range of emotions, was especially well suited to the task.
• On this disc Martin Fröst brings all his natural virtuosity to this programme of beguiling tunes from the world of grand opera. He finds a range of nuances in the clarinet which even the greatest singers would be pressed to match.
