The soundtrack album for one of this year’s most original films - LIFE IN A DAY- produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald, is to be released on 24 October with contributions from Ellie Goulding, Baaba Maal and renowned composers Harry Gregson-Williams and Matthew Herbert. LIFE IN A DAY is a user-generated feature length documentary, shot on a single day - July 24, 2010 - that enlisted the global community to capture a moment of their lives on camera. The world responded by submitting more than 80,000 videos, representing over 4,500 hours of deeply personal, powerful films from contributors from Australia to Zambia, from the heart of bustling major cities to the furthest and most remote reaches of the earth. LIFE IN A DAY brings together the most compelling YouTube footage into a 90-minute film, crafted by Macdonald, Executive Producer Ridley Scott, Producer Liza Marshall and their team, to offer a unique experience that shows, in beautiful, humourous and joyful honesty, what it’s like to be alive on earth today. The soundtrack for LIFE IN A DAY is released on 24th October, coinciding with the full global release of the film on YouTube. The soundtrack features music from two of today’s most exciting and successful composers, Harry Gregson-Williams and Matthew Herbert, with the addition of a few compositions from artists featured in the film. The lead song from the soundtrack, Matthew Herbert’s ‘A Day At A Time’, features on the album in two versions with guest vocals from Ellie Goulding and Baaba Maal. Harry Gregson-Williams is one of Hollywood’s most sought after composers, whose scores span the spectrum of high-profile projects from action to drama to animation – each infused with the emotional punch and atmospheric intensity that mark his distinctive musical style. He worked on all four installments of the blockbuster Shrek franchise; garnered a BAFTA nomination for the score for the first Shrek; and received Golden Globe and Grammy Award nominations for his score for Andrew Adamson’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. He started his film career as an orchestrator and arranger for composer Stanley Myers, and went on to compose his first scores for director Nicolas Roeg. His subsequent collaboration and friendship with composer Hans Zimmer resulted in Gregson-Williams providing music for such films as The Rock, Armageddon and The Prince of Egypt and helped launch his career in Hollywood Matthew Herbert is a musician and composer who works principally turning everyday sounds in to music. He has produced an astonishing volume of work for a variety of media. Herbert has released some 20 of his own albums under various monikers. In 2010 Herbert was commissioned by The London Sinfonietta to create a programme of music from a single edition of The Guardian newspaper. Herbert’s credits as producer and collaborator include Björk (most recently working on and remixing the Biophilia album), Antony Hegarty, Mercury-nominated trio The Invisible, Micachu And The Shapes, Rowdy Superstar, Roisin Murphy, Patrick Wolf and recently Merz, Barbara Panther. For the soundtrack to LIFE IN A DAY, Herbert wove thousands of audio submissions from contributors around the globe into the film, as well as composing orchestral music for the film. This year he will also release, ‘One Pig’, an album derived from recordings made during the life, death and consumption of a single English farm animal.
