• Arthaus DVD’s reputation for purveying the finest jazz recordings is advancing at a rate of knots. Here we present two unusual artistic partnerships in a recording of two live concerts, showcasing an extraordinary synthesis of musical styles.
• This live performance by pianist Chick Corea and vibraphonist Gary Burton was recorded during a sell-out concert on 17th February 1981 at the Yubin-Chokin Hall in Tokyo. It includes some of Corea’s finest compositions: “Mirror, mirror”, “Bud Powell”, seven pieces from “Children’s Songs”, “Señor Mouse”, “Song to Gayle” and “La Fiesta”.
• The other half of this programme is comprised of Carla Bley’s own compositions, performed by herself and bass player Steve Swallow in an electric display of musical chemistry.
