Stefan Engels continues his highly acclaimed series of Karg-Elert’s complete organ works with a seventh volume of which the largest single work of 33 minutes is the Chaconne (35 Variations on a Basso Ostinato) which was given its first performance in Jena, Thuringia in 1913 with Karl Straube as organist. Since then it has been little performed and there is little commentary about this fine work. The rest of this exciting CD played on the large four manual Siefert Organ in Kevelaer Basilika are the two Symphonic Canzona’s Op.5 Nos 1 and 2. A stunning CD in demonstration sound.
