Since its successful débuts in the Berlin Philharmonie, New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall and at the Salzburg Festival and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, the Berlin-based Kuss Quartet has become established as one of today’s most promising young string quartets.

The Quartet’s repertoire is as varied as their presentation. The four string players love to experiment, particularly by combining spoken word and music, and they create unusual concert formats such as literary concerts (for example featuring the actor Udo Samel), themed concerts (such as their ‘Explica’ series in Hamburg‘s Laeiszhalle) and unusual projects combined with other art forms, such as their ‘Kuss Plus’ programme, which has been performed at various Berlin clubs.

Kuss Quartet also works together with young composers, and gives workshops at the Hamburg Musikhochschule. They have collaborated with such musicians as Kim Kashkashian, Thomas Riebl, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Annette Dasch and Sharon Kam.

Bridges is an unusual programme of music spanning from Renaissance to contemporary, including works by Igor Stravinsky, John Bennett, John Dowland, Orlando Di Lasso and György Kurtag, and perfectly demonstrates the Quartet’s fresh approach.

"…provocative, driving, impassioned playing...the purity of sound was almost heavenly..." Houston Chronicle
