Harmonica maestro and composer Hendrik Meurkens and Mexican-born bassist composer Gabriel Espinosa have collaborated on this breezy, sensuous session made up of 11 original Brazilian sambas, bossa novas and chorinhos.
Meurkens demonstrates his soulful harmonica sounds across 11 tracks that also feature guest artists Anat Cohen on clarinet and tenor sax, Jim Seeley on trumpet, Antonio Sanchez on drums and with the smooth wordless vocals of Alison Wedding.
‘Celebrando’ brings together the leaders with their seven illustrious colleagues to investigate a set of Brazilian jazz originals - with a “Yucatan” and “European twist,” say Espinosa and Meurkens - including one classic bolero, all designed to enchant.
