The British Piano Concerto series on Naxos, guided by one of the foremost British pianists of our generation in Peter Donohoe, has unearthed more remarkable gems in the form of these 2 Piano Concertos by Thomas Pitfield.
Pitfield, born in 1903, continued to pursue his musical and artistic interest until well into his nineties. The two Piano Concertos bear many of Pitfield’s fingerprints, which includes folk melodies, hymnic harmonisation, and dazzling cascades between alternating hands. Anthony Goldstone performs the 1st Piano Concerto: Peter Donohoe the 2nd Piano Concerto.
