Porter was an exceptionally gifted songwriter and one of Broadway‘s leading musical composers – and his musical Kiss Me, Kate broke all the records. This parody of Shakespeare‘s The Taming Of The Shrew became the prototype of the genre and one of the most successful musicals ever to be performed in the area around New York‘s Times Square. The work enjoyed over a thousand revivals in the the three years following the premiere performance and was performed all over the world; Kiss Me, Kate was awarded the most important American theatre award, the ”Tony Award“, no less than five times. This recording was made with the original Broadway cast just a few weeks after the premiere performance.
