Whenever there is question of music in French Catalonia in the early 20th century, one name stands out: that of Déodat de Séverac whose oeuvre is one of those in which the soul and harmony of this region are best reflected. This composer who formed, with Debussy and Ravel, 'the new French music trio' is worth better knowing.
Déodat de Séverac, who stormed at the Parisian coteries and musical centralization, wanted to be the bard of the soul of the Catalan country that he adored. His music is redolent of thyme and rosemary.
