The Borodin Quartet
The Borodin String Quartet is by rights considered to be one of the best contemporary ensembles. The ensemble’s repertoire is vast, embracing all the major works of the quartet
literature. Collaboration with Shostakovich – composer, pianist and a good friend of the quartet – occupies a special place in their history. The quartet performs not only all his quartets but also the octet, trio, quintet. Whilst working on these compositions the musicians often used the advice and guidance of the composer. From 1947 the Borodin Quartet frequently performed together with Shostakovich and the ensemble premiered his works in more than twenty countries. These revelatory and inspired interpretations were recorded in 1978 -1983.
