These recordings were made between 1926 and 1946, during which period the young Tauber’s voice was at its most flexible and rich. Many of the selections recorded during this period relate to early roles in his repertoire such as Der Freischütz, which he first sang in 1913 and Carmen, which he first performed in 1914. Other undisputed Tauber gems found on this disc include Hoffmann’s two airs and Tauber’s greatest operatic identification – Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.
