A week after MET audiences cheered their joint house debuts in Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Leontyne Price and Franco Corelli repeated the triumph in this matinee broadcast from Saturday, February 4, 1961. Both singers were in their incomparable primes, leading a cast that also featured baritone Mario Sereni, mezzo-soprano Irene Dalis and – in the brief role of Ines – young Teresa Stratas. Fausto Cleva, one the Met’s most admired Italian specialist, conducts the company’s orchestra and chorus.
