Each composer’s life and work is presented through extensive performance sequences, and through interviews and comment from some of today’s greatest artists and most respected authorities. The entire series is narrated by Kenneth Branagh.
The whole series is now available as seven separate DVDs.
The programmes were filmed on location all over Europe and America, including performances from many major opera houses and concert halls. Featured artists include John Eliot Gardiner with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, András Schiff, Ton Koopman, Joanna MacGregor, Cecilia Bartoli, the Endellion Quartet, Sir Colin Davis and the London Symphony Orchestra, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Georg Solti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lindsay Quartet, Daniel Barenboim, Maxim Vengerov, Thomas Hampson, José Cura, and many more.
